Thesen Island, Knysna
The Story
From timber island to harbour village
Thesen Island takes its name from the Norwegian Thesen family, who arrived in Knysna in 1869 and built a timber and boat-building business on the island. Today the old industrial island has been reimagined as a tranquil marina village — water-edged homes, tree-lined lanes, and Thesen Harbour Town's buzz of shops and restaurants.
On the Edge sits right where the island village meets the lagoon — close enough to stroll to dinner, quiet enough to hear the water.

The lagoon, at sunset — right on your doorstep.
